Bulgari for Marie Claire

“Roma Caput Cinema”

Made in assignment for Bulgari and Marie Claire

2020

For Marie Claire Italia and Bulgari I created an editorial that resulted in four covers and a forty-page feature, a project that united fashion, cinema, and the timeless beauty of Rome. From the very beginning, I didn’t try to transform reality into style; rather, I sought to find a point of contact where the imaginary of fashion could coexist with the truth of reportage. This philosophy guided me throughout the work.

It was my first time working on this kind of project, and the director, Antonella Bussi, along with Manuela Ravasio, invited me with a clear brief: "we want a documentary photographer lent to fashion." I was thus called to bring my gaze—shaped by years of documentary photography—into the world of fashion, interpreting Bulgari through the faces of eight extraordinary actresses of the new Italian generation.

In two intense days at Villa Aurelia, I wove a narrative that alternated portraits and atmosphere, intertwining the elegance of Federica Sabatini, Pilar Fogliati, Carlotta Antonelli, Ludovica Martino, Elisa Visari, Jessica Piccolo Valerani, Camille Dugay, and Serena De Ferrari with the very soul of Rome—the city where Italian cinema was born, and where every corner still resonates with collective imagination.

INSIDE MY VISION

Working with Bulgari and Marie Claire allowed me to explore the complex intersection of two photographic languages: fashion and documentary. I wanted to discover where these worlds meet, and how their tools can merge without losing their essence.

My experience in reportage pushed me to look not only at the elegance of clothes and jewels, but also at the testimony of context and lived experience—in this case, that of the eternal city and a new generation of actresses. The project, therefore, went beyond simple staging to become a layered narrative.

The resulting images transcend their primary function, becoming a visual investigation into a broader theme: the role of contemporary photography in mediating between the real world and its representation, with the challenge of telling stories that are at once poetic, symbolic, and authentic.

This project was an immersion into unexplored territory: where documentary meets fashion, images can become a narrative suspended between poetry and contemporary life. Rome offered its silence and light, becoming a natural stage. The young actresses, with their beauty and strength, embody the promise of a future for Italian cinema.
